World Autism Awareness Day

Woman with happy child.

World Autism Awareness Day is a United Nations-sanctioned event proposed by Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned in 2007, a United Nations Representative from Qatar. It was adopted in 2008 to supplement previous UN initiatives to improve human rights. On April 2, people all around the world observe World Autism Awareness Day to promote understanding and acceptance of those who have autism.

According to the Center for Disease and Control, approximately 1 in 44 children in the United States is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. People show support on World Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue or lighting up their homes and businesses blue. Blue symbolizes feelings of calm, comfort, and acceptance in a world that can sometimes be loud and chaotic for those with autism.

Please join all of us at TwinStar Credit Union in celebrating World Autism Awareness Day. Together, we can help persons with autism feel accepted and realize their full potential.
