A Message on Global Diversity Awareness Month from Jeff Kennedy, CEO

A diversity of hands showing teamwork.

October marks the start of Global Diversity Awareness Month, celebrating the multicultural society we live in. Our communities are made stronger through the diversity of backgrounds and cultures. Serving and being conscious of the community is our passion and embracing the power of diversity, inclusion and equity is deeply rooted in our vision and purpose. It is essential to our members' and the credit union's success.

TwinStar’s Board of Directors established a resolution on diversity, equity and inclusion in 2020 that states “we believe diversity not only helps our organization rid itself of blind spots, but also helps us relate and add value to the communities we serve.”

We are honored to provide financial support to non-profit groups in our community that promote diversity. Remaining true to our roots in education, we partnered with public schools and higher learning in our communities. By aligning with teachers and schools, TwinStar aims to minimize barriers in financial costs, increase opportunities for underserved communities and expand cultural recognition. A few of the organizations and programs we support are:

  • The Learning Seed Foundation
  • South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC)
  • Grays Harbor College
  • Centralia College
  • Evergreen Public Schools
  • Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV)
  • Franklin Pierce School District
  • Bethel School District

We also partner with non-profit groups that serve a diverse population with care and compassion:

  • Pizza Klatch
  • Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
  • Community Youth Services (CYS)
  • YMCA of South Sound
  • Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County
  • Thurston Together!
  • Day of Champions (Kiwanis)
  • Morningside
  • Wheels of Hope

We embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace to encourage a sense of belonging in our spaces. Empowering our team to show up as themselves enables them to do their best, reflecting in the great service we provide for our members. Plus, we are recognizing and building awareness of the holidays and observances celebrated by diverse groups in our communities.
