Equifax reported that that a cybersecurity breach has compromised the personal information of as many as 143 million Americans - approximately 44% of the total U.S. population.

Information that could possibly be affected includes:

  • Social Security Numbers
  • Birth Dates
  • Addresses
  • Driver’s License Numbers
  • Credit Card Numbers
  • Certain dispute documents

TwinStar Credit Union does not contract with Equifax for credit reporting services and does not provide credit card numbers to any of the credit bureaus.

Due to the scope of the breach, your personal information could still be at risk. (For example, from secondary sources such as a transaction dispute.)

What can you do?

Visit https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com and select the “Potential Impact” icon to determine if your information may have been compromised- and if so- follow the appropriate steps to enroll in a free service from TrustedID Premier.

Check your credit report. You are entitled to one free credit report per year. You can request this by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 877.322.8228.

Remain vigilant about reviewing your credit report and account information on a regular basis to ensure there is no fraudulent activity. Fraudsters are very patient, and if your information was compromised, they could hold your information for use in future fraud.

If you have disputed a transaction with TwinStar, it may be in your best interest to have your current card blocked/disabled and a new card and card number ordered.
