Celebrating 85 Years with Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness in the Community

At TwinStar, we have a long and proud history of giving back to the communities we live, work, and play in — 85 years to be exact.

That’s why we are excited to be participating in random acts of kindness as part of our 85th anniversary celebration! This month, we’ll be donating to the following organizations so that they can purchase wishlist items that can help them continue changing lives.

Reach Out and Read Washington
Reach and Read aims to provide families with the information and tools they need to make reading to their children a daily routine, which includes integrating reading into pediatric practices. Reach Out and Read Washington donates books to 31 counties across Washington.

South Sound Reading Foundation
The mission of the South Sound Reading Foundation is to help ensure all children in the South Sound area know how to read — and enjoy reading because it can lead to new, exciting opportunities. The foundation creates more access to books for low-income children via its book van, Bag O’ Books program, and numerous reading engagement opportunities.

Tacoma Area Literacy Council
A non-profit organization led by volunteers, the Tacoma Area Literacy Council provides tutoring in basic literacy skills and English as a Second Language (ESL) to adult learners. Its goal is to help adults become more self-sufficient and achieve their goals through improved literacy.

REACH for Literacy
Primarily serving K-5 students in North Thurston schools, REACH aims to improve lives through literacy. It believes that strong literacy skills lead to empowerment, which can help break the cycle of poverty. REACH plans to expand its services to older students and adults in the near future.

Notice a theme among the organizations we chose? They all support literary efforts throughout the state of Washington.

It’s a fitting tribute to TwinStar’s roots. We were started by teachers who wanted to help other teachers improve their financial well being. Not surprisingly, a lot of our charitable efforts focus on education and supporting local schools and universities.

You also might run into members of TwinStar’s community engagement team this month — and they might treat you to a coffee or pay for your groceries. After all, we take random acts of kindness seriously around here.

We want to thank you for your continued support. It’s because of TwinStar Credit Union members like you that we are able to give back so generously to the communities we serve.

Here’s to 85 more years of helping enrich and enhance our communities.
