Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year 2023

Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, begins January 22 and runs through February 9 this year. The 15-day holiday marks the start of the new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar — and 2023 is the year of the Rabbit.

Each day of Chinese New Year recognizes or celebrates a different tradition. Due to it being celebrated in multiple countries, there are a range of myths and customs associated with Chinese New year.

Families traditionally clean their homes to sweep away bad fortune and usher in good luck. Other common Chinese New Year customs include decorating homes with red paper cutouts and couplets, and gifting money in red envelopes.

Chinese New Year culminates with the Lantern Festival, which honors deceased ancestors — and promotes reconciliation, peace, and forgiveness. Popular festival activities include lion/dragon dances, parades, and fireworks.

We want to wish all of our TwinStar Credit Union members and employees who observe Chinese New Year a wonderful and safe holiday!
